Understanding Verification Results

Below are the various result codes that Truelist will give after verifying an email or a list of emails.

OK

An OK result means that the email address is valid and it exists. They are active and ready to receive your emails.

Risky

An email flagged as risky means that while it does exist, there are reasons you may not want to send to it:

  • The sending domain is known to be a disposable email domain.
  • The address is a role address, like admin, postmaster, root, etc.
It is generally not a good idea to send to an email address that was found to be risky.

Unknown

Truelist could not verify that the email address exists. This occurs of the domain accepts all email addresses, even non-existent ones. Truelist does not charge a credit if a domain accepts all email addresses.

Invalid

The email is invalid for any of the following reasons:

  • It failed a syntax check - e.g. it is not a valid email address (example - an email with 2 @ symbols: john@google@google.com).
  • Truelist could not identify any MX records with the domain.
  • Truelist could not communicate with the SMTP server.
  • Truelist identified a spam trap email or domain.
